Our Story

While He was on earth, Jesus focused His ministry on announcing and demonstrating that the kingdom of God is near. Today, Springs Community Church (SCC) is committed to discovering and experiencing this kingdom – and the new life in Christ that comes with it. We want everything we do to be grounded in the same focus Jesus had, which is summed up perfectly in Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

How can we experience the kingdom of God in the midst of a broken and challenging world? Over the years, we’ve learned that it comes by allowing the word of God to transform our minds, spirits and souls; by seeking the power and presence of the Holy Spirit; and by developing meaningful – some might say “sacred” – friendships with others.

In the kingdom of God, we find healing for tired and weary souls. We find restored faith from what was once damaged or lost. We find abundant life that has nothing to do with the size of our house or the amount in our bank account.

In His kingdom, today and every day, we find Jesus.

Our Beliefs

Our foundational beliefs are best expressed through The Nicene Creed:

We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, begotten from the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made; of the same essence as the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven; He became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and was made human. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried. The third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will never end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life. He proceeds from the Father and the Son, and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified. He spoke through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and to life in the world to come. Amen.

Our Values

SCC pursues three main values: Sacred Friendship, deep Spiritual Transformation, and Empowered Witness.

  • Jesus modeled what sacred friendships can be like as He broke bread and lived life with His disciples. But how often do we actually experience fulfilling relationships like that today? At SCC, we pursue sacred friendships – the kind where can be real in our struggles, our joys, and in our faith. Like iron sharpens iron, sacred friendships push us to love more like Jesus.

  • In his letters, the Apostle Paul continually directs his readers toward deep spiritual transformation in Christ. Accepting Jesus as our Savior is only the first step in the process! SCC is a place where all people can discover new ways to grow and mature in faith, as we become more and more like Jesus.

  • As we center ourselves and our friendships around Christ, it is natural that we would want to share that good news with others! And in His grace, God sent His Holy Spirit to equip us for this task, empowering our witness as we preach the gospel to all nations.

In addition to our beliefs and values, the papers listed below reflect what SCC believes to be the biblical position on various social issues. These prayerfully considered positions inform the ways in which our staff leads and makes decisions. Our desire is that every position we take is characterized by the truth of God's word and by deep love for all people.

Our History

Pastors Steve Brooks and Ron Gray started Springs Community Church together in 1985. Following the tragic deaths of their wives in the same car accident six years prior, they had received grief counseling together and formed a deep friendship. After many conversations, the extroverted dynamo and the practical administrator began to see themselves not as opposites, but as two halves of the same team. Mercifully, the accident that wrecked their lives brought them together to achieve their goal of starting a new church.

In 2007, Pastor Steve was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Realizing that he could not physically continue to lead SCC into the future, a search team was formed to seek his replacement. After phone conversations and personal interviews with numerous qualified candidates, Pastor Eric Carpenter became the lead pastor in March 2008. Today he and the rest of the staff are committed to seeking and demonstrating the kingdom of God to our neighbors, keeping alive the same heart for the community that started it all.

Alliance of Reformed Churches

SCC is a member of the Alliance of Reformed Churches. The Alliance is a community that joins together as friends and partners in Christ, seeking first the Kingdom of God with the presence and power of the Holy Spirit; pursuing unrelentingly innovative ways to engage a changing world with the Good News of Jesus Christ; and embracing the diversity of the human experience under obedience to Christ our King.
